Free primary education: the policy is indeed being maintained
“Free primary education in public schools is reportedly being scrapped for the start of the school year.”
Rumours of its abolition were circulating in parent-teacher groups.
The Ministry of Primary, Secondary and Technical Education confirms the continuation of the scheme. So-called "motivation" fees demanded in certain schools remain prohibited in public primary schools.
What remains to be monitored: effective implementation on the ground, which varies across provinces.
